ADD-TREES participates in UKRI AI & Net Zero Collaborative Show

The ADD-TREES team were delighted to take part in a URKI AI & Net Zero Collaborative Showcase in London this week jointly organised by RAi UK and UKRI. The event brought together a range of UKRI projects investigating ways in which AI can help contribute solutions to societal challenges, and exploring responsible uses of AI techniques, alongside other key stakeholders from across the landscape.

The UK AI Ecosystem

Professor Sarvapali (Gopal) Ramchurn, Responsible Ai UK’s CEO, and Dr Simon Gardner, Head of Digital Environment, NERC-UKRI, set out the AI Ecosystem in the UK and the role of the AI for Net Zero Programme within this.

UKRI AI Investments

The ground breaking contribution and insights of the UKRI AI projects in the domains of AI for sustainability across various sectors, including energy, transport, environment, agriculture, and food systems was highlighted.

The ADD-TREES project team were delighted to share our progress with colleagues from across the AI for Net Zero and Responsible AI communities, and it was a fantastic opportunity to meet many people in person for the first time.

Professor Gina Neff, Executive Director, Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, University of Cambridge, challenged the group on how to reconcile uses of AI for Net Zero with sustainable AI practices. She encouraged researchers to build an emphasis on energy efficiency, ethics, and environmental responsibility into their project design.

The meeting provided a helpful platform for knowledge exchange across the AI ecosystem and a chance to discuss ideas across the network. Thanks to RAi UK and UKRI for bringing the groups together and helping foster our emerging AI for Net Zero research community.
