The UK GGR Event 2025

Our team were delighted to be part of the UK GGR Event, at the Royal Institution in central London from Monday 29 September to Wednesday 1 October 2025.

Bringing together researchers,  innovators, policymakers, businesses, NGOs, investors and others with an interest in greenhouse gas removal (GGR), the celebratory event was the culmination of the 4.5-year GGR-D Programme.

Demonstrating NetZeroPlus Research Findings

Our work package leads presented the findings to date from across the project,

A systems approach to integrating woodland GGR into land use policy: Ian Bateman

Measuring and modelling above and below ground GGR across multiple woodland types: Astley Hastings

Ecosystem services from trees: Synergies and trade-offs for delivering land use change: Amy Binner

Integrating the Science: Co-designing decision support tools for forestry GGR implementation: Christopher Lee

We also gave a preview of our decision support tool which will be a key output of the project…enabling land use decision-making for woodland creation that brings in the latest scientific understandings about carbon sequestration, and the other impacts of woodland creation such as on water quality, flood risk, biodiversity, access to green spaces for the public and much more and helping support ‘NetZero PLUS’.

Showcasing our researchers

The early career researchers on the project presented posters at an evening poster session. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their findings, discuss future work and answer questions from other participants.

The GGR-D Programme

Funded by UKRI, the GGR-D programme includes the CO2RE Hub and five interdisciplinary GGR Demonstrator projects, each researching a GGR method: Peatlands (GGR-Peat), Biochar, Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW), Perennial Biomass Crops (PBC4GGR) and Woodland Creation and Management (NetZero+).
