Californian High School Students Inspired by Outreach Talk
Dr Cassandra Bird, a NetZeroPlus research fellow based at the LEEP Institute at the University of Exeter, was delighted to be invited to speak to a group of high school students who are part of an engineering club at Poway High School in Southern Carolina. The school teach about various STEM careers and Cassandra was able to present her PhD work and give insight into her first research role within LEEP.
Cassie met a group of 110 students this September via Zoom. She said “It’s the first time I’ve been able to talk to a group of students since taking up my role within LEEP.” It was the first time many of the students had heard about research in STEM as a career option. Many students were unaware that our work is used to advise stakeholders, like government.
We’d like to thank Cassandra for the work she does here at Exeter University, within LEEP & NetZeroPlus and for inspiring young students who are considering a career in this field. This is another example of how our work here at NetZeroPlus is not only delivering for the project, but also making an impact internationally. The students at Poway High School have formed a club, which can be followed on Instagram.
